“I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious.” - Albert Einstein
Prompt:
I’d like to discuss the importance of curiosity in our creative lives. Specifically I’d love to hear what sparks curiosity for you!
My Answer:
Curiosity is the thing that keeps me engaged with my work. I have never been satisfied with perfection as a goal. I prefer growth, change, evolution.
Thoughts and Actions:
There are a lot of quotes about how curiosity is the opposite of judgement. But they all really boil down to mindset.
Curiosity is a fundamental driving force for artists, inspiring exploration and experimentation. It leads to innovative outcomes and pushes artistic boundaries, fostering originality and a mindset of constant learning. Artists who are curious are more likely to produce meaningful work.
How Curiosity Fuels Art:
Exploration and Discovery:
Curiosity encourages artists to delve into uncharted territories, exploring unfamiliar or unorthodox techniques, or by seeking inspiration from unexpected sources.
Divergent Thinking:
A curious mindset allows artists to engage in divergent thinking, exploring multiple possibilities and generating unique solutions.
Openness to New Experiences:
Curiosity fosters a willingness to try new things often outside of the comfort zone, leading to unexpected and innovative results.
Personal and Professional Growth:
By embracing curiosity, artists continuously learn and evolve, refining their craft and expanding their artistic horizons.
Meaningful Art:
As a priority (over judgement) it also allows the artist to remove themselves from the hamster wheel of competition. Thus allowing for the space to explore the human experience, ultimately creating art that resonates with audiences.
